A group of seventh graders came up with a clever protest after their principal refused to put tampons in the school bathrooms.

Tampons are an absolute necessity, especially for young girls who might start their period at school. Many people have argued that sanitary products should be provided by schools free of charge. This would especially help girls in poverty, who are often forced to miss school as a result of their period.

It started when the children asked for hygiene products to be supplied.

At one middle school, girls asked for access to sanitary products in bathrooms at the school. When the principal was less than receptive to the idea, they devised a pretty creative form of protest.

“My friend’s 7th grader goes to a school where the kids organized for free tampons in the bathroom,” Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America tweeted. “The male principal said no because they would ‘abuse the privilege.’”

They baked some cookies for the principal in the shape of tampons.

Instead of giving up, the students decided to hold a cookie protest, which included the tampon cookies you can see below. And yes, they look amazing.

As you can probably imagine, plenty of people reacted to the protest.

The reaction that the cookies had on the principal is unclear, but the people of Twitter absolutely loved the idea.

“I just love today’s kids,” one user wrote. “When I was that age, we would have never even said tampon out loud.”

They added: “Each generation is incorporating feminism into child-rearing more and more. Yesterday’s ‘you can be a doctor’ is now ‘you can be a doctor and you can demand tampons.’”

Some commenters applauded the creativity.

Another added: “She and every girl in the school should rally together and agree that every. single. time. they need a tampon, they should bypass all other adults at school and go ask for one from the principal directly.”

Others suggested other forms of protest.

Another joked: “Maybe the girls should demonstrate that they are not taking advantage of free tampons by returning them to the principal when they are finished with them.”

This user was confused by how hygiene products can be “abused.”

One user asked: “Abuse them how? Is there a high street value for them? Are they going to overdose? Use a super when they could have made do with a light? Are pads just a gateway? Next you know they will be on DivaCups!”

Some educators shared how their students had benefited from similar programs.

“I teach at a CC,” another explained. “A student told me how great the basket of tampons/pads in the bathroom were. She was panicking because she didn’t have $ or a ride to the store and they were there, free, & kept her in class (& confident). Me: that’s why they’re there.”

Others were more skeptical.

Another user concluded: “But yes, plenty of kids would abuse the privilege. I’ve taught in enough middle schools to know that the dispenser would be emptied on the first day and tampons would be covering everything. Of they had them at the school nurse’s office or the front desk, that’d be reasonable.”

What do you think?

Another asked: “Kids would take advantage of having basic hygiene products?”

What do you think of this protest? Did it get the point across, or do more damage than good?

Why Did Ben Leave Fab Rats? Tough Decision, Explained

Published

on

Ben Fab has been absent from recent videos on the Fab Rats YouTube channel, leading some to wonder why he decided to leave the shop.

The Gist:

  • Ben Fab has been a fixture in Fab Rats videos for years.
  • The Fab Rats channel recently announced that Ben would be leaving the shop to spend more time with his family.
  • Fans of the Fab Rats will miss Ben, but seem to understand why he made this decision.

Article continues below advertisement

The anchors of the Fab Rats YouTube channel have always been Paul Fab and his wife Lizzy, but another prominent member of their team was Ben, Paul’s brother, who worked at their shop with them. The Fab Rats YouTube channel is largely dedicated to videos about difficult tow jobs and rebuilds of old cars. Ben has been a huge piece of what the channel offered in recent years.

In a video posted on Sept. 27, 2023, the Fab Rats addressed Ben’s absence from recent videos. While they didn’t go into a ton of detail, they did explain that Ben would no longer be on the Fab Rats channel because he had left the shop. Now, many want to know why Ben decided to leave the shop and the channel behind.

Why did Ben leave Fab Rats?

At the beginning of their most recent video, Paul and Lizzy explain that Ben decided to leave Fab Rats in order to spend more time with his family. They said that while they were sad to see him go, they understood his decision, and said he still might pop up on the channel occasionally. The era of Ben appearing in videos regularly is over, though. Part of the reason is that his family lives pretty far away from where the videos are filmed.

In a separate post on Instagram, the Fab Rats made a similar announcement addressing Ben’s absence.

“Change can be hard and this has been one of the harder adjustments for us all,” the statement says. “We sure are going to miss having this guy in the shop but family is important and Ben’s family needed him. Lucky for us, we have Hunter and Sean around to help with all of the awesome upcoming projects.”

“Thanks to all of our amazing viewers/friends/Fab Rats family for the love and support you have given us. We appreciate you all more than you know,” the statement concluded.

It’s unclear whether there’s any tension between Ben and the rest of Fab Rats, but publicly it seems like Ben just wanted to spend less time at the shop and more time with his family, which is a choice all of us have to balance.

The Fab Rats certainly don’t plan to slow down, though, and their statement indicates that. As the comments under the post suggest, people loved Ben and understand his decision to leave.

“You know if you stick around long enough you always see people come and go in life. It was Randall now Ben but I’m sure it will not be the last we see either of them. We will all miss seeing you Ben, I wish you all the best!” one person wrote.

Who was Michael Gambon’s wife?

Michael married his wife Anne Miller in 1962 when he was 22 years old. Anne is a mathematician, and as a result, the two were very private about their relationship. In fact, if Michael was asked about his wife in interviews, he would sometimes pretend that he didn’t have one. The two appear to have still been married at the time of Michael’s death, although their marriage had gotten more complicated in recent years.

In 2001, while filming Gosford Park, Michael brought a woman named Philippa Hart to set and introduced her as his girlfriend. Although many Americans will only know him as the more controversial performer to play Dumbledore, his career contained much more than that single performance.
