For nearly two decades, Chris Harrison was the conductor of the orchestra that was The Bachelor franchise. From the original down to its equally as feisty spinoffs, Harrison oversaw matchmaking and match breaking.

In February 2021, Harrison went through a breakup of his own when he stepped away as host from the show that he spent nearly half his life with. What happened to Chris Harrison and what is he up to now?

What happened to Chris Harrison?

Season 25 of The Bachelor was groundbreaking. It featured its first Black bachelor, Matt James, who was naturally going to be the source of a fair amount of racist reactions to his presence on the typically white show. And while this moved The Bachelor needle closer to a more diverse franchise, controversy would demonstrate that all wasn’t what it seemed.

A 2018 photo of contestant Rachael Kirkconnell (who is white) attending an antebellum-themed party surfaced, which would be problematic all on its own. Unfortunately, per Yahoo, “In early January, a woman alleged she was bullied by the 24-year-old graphic designer for dating Black men. A few weeks later, someone accused Kirkconnell of liking Confederate flag-related social media posts.”

This coincided with the day Matt’s one-on-one with Rachael aired, wherein he confessed he was falling in love with her. In a Feb. 2, 2021, interview with Entertainment Tonight, Matt said, “Rumors are dark and nasty and can ruin people’s lives. So, I would give people the benefit of the doubt, and hopefully she will have her time to speak on that.”

A week after the Entertainment Tonight interview, fellow Bachelor contestant Rachel Lindsay (who is Black) had Chris Harrison on an episode of Extra to ask him about the racist controversy besieging the show. When Rachel told Harrison that the photo “wasn’t a good look,” he responded by asking, “Is it a good look in 2018 or is it not a good look in 2021?” Rachel then had to remind Harrison that if she was at the party, her position as a Black woman at an antebellum-themed event would be vastly different.

Sadly, Chris didn’t seem to get it and kept doubling down on this wild idea that 2018 and 2021 were separated by oceans of time (instead of three years). Both Harrison and Rachael issued statements with apologies about their ignorance, but the damage was already done. Harrison announced he would be “stepping down” from the show on Feb. 13, 2022, and he never stepped back up again.

In early 2023, Chris launched his podcast, The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever … With Chris Harrison, where he began to open up about what happened behind the scenes. “The playbook had been thrown out the window,” he said.

“One point I was trying to make and did not make eloquently, is people need time to think and to process… I wanted to step away,” he explained. “I wanted to think and learn and change and go through everything I went through personally before I had this talk.”

Chris recalled how “messy” everything was when it happened especially because he claimed that people were out to get his job. He also said that this incident just illuminated further an already existing race issue on the show.

“I think the timing of this is very relevant, at where we were in the world. And then culturally, what was going on in the world with civil rights. There was a lot of confusion, anger, resentment. It was a very combustible moment in time,” he elaborated. “And my timing of being sloppy, inappropriate, wrong in that moment, that’s on me, to have not seen that.”

What is Chris Harrison doing now?

Harrison moved back to his home state of Texas, more specifically Austin, and credits his fiancée for this decision. In an Instagram post dated March 2, 2022 that features the couple on the cover of Austin Lifestyle Magazine, he wrote, “I always hoped I’d be able to return to my roots and settle back in my home state of Texas someday, but I never dreamed it could be this good. Excited about the next chapter!”

In May, Harrison announced that his daughter, Taylor, would be heading to Texas Christian University where his son, Joshua, also goes to school. An Instagram post could hardly contain his excitement as he congratulated his daughter and all the kids who battled through a tough couple of years.

But, of course, we saved the best life update for last. If you’re getting married soon and are in the market for an officiant, look no further than Chris Harrison. According to his very own website, “Since 2012, Chris Harrison is an ordained minister with Universal Life Church. He customizes each of his weddings to the couple.”

Sadly, the website doesn’t include pricing, but we have to assume these couples are in it to win it. In other words, they accepted their roses.

In case you were wondering, no, Chris doesn’t watch The Bachelor. He admitted that he keeps up to date on the ratings, but doesn’t actually tune in to the episodes.

Chris said, “The show changed my life. I’m grateful to The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, I will be forever grateful. There is no animosity.”

Did Facebook Change Their Blue? They Just Redid Their Logo

Published

on

Facebook changed the color of their logo, and many people are starting to notice and wondering what led to the change in logo and color.

Source: Getty Images

The Gist:

  • Facebook updated its logo on Sept. 20, 2023, with a deeper blue and some small changes to the “f” in the logo.
  • The changes were designed to make the logo more “electrifying” and “everlasting,” but they definitely aren’t major shifts.
  • The company also made slight updates to its wordmark to align it with the new logo.

Although it may not be as popular with younger generations as it once was, Facebook remains the most widely used social media service on the planet. As such, Facebook has remained remarkably consistent over the years, doing very little rock the boat or change up its platform so that users feel uncomfortable or confused.

On Sept. 20, 2023, Facebook made a change that many people may have overlooked. Now, as they open the app or look at it on their browser, though, they have realized that something seems different. The blue in the logo seems different, and many people want to know why.

Did Facebook change their blue?

Facebook did make a slight update to its logo, and the blue in the logo is now a bit darker. Additionally, they made a few minor changes to the “f” that are almost imperceptible unless you know where they are.

Meta, the company behind Facebook, explained the change by saying that they wanted to make a new logo that seemed “everlasting.”

Article continues below advertisement

“Our intention was to create a refreshed design of the Facebook logo that was bolder, electric, and everlasting,” the company said in a blog post. “Each of the distinctive, new refinements drive greater harmony across the entire design as a key element of the app’s identity. We’ve done this by incorporating a more confident expression of Facebook’s core blue color that is built to be more visually accessible in our app and provides stronger contrast for the ‘f’ to stand apart.”

The logo is certainly different, but it isn’t a radical change, which makes sense. According to Meta’s own statistics, Facebook is visited by a staggering 2 billion people every day, so a radical overhaul of the logo would likely cause a pretty significant disruption. They’ve updated the logo, but hopefully they haven’t made it any harder for all of their regular users to find the app on their phones.

Facebook also updated its wordmark.

In addition to updating its signature logo, Facebook updated its wordmark with a new font and a blue to match the logo.

“Using our custom typeface, Facebook Sans, we redesigned the wordmark and logo to create a consistent treatment and improve overall legibility across Facebook,” Meta explained.

“Similar to the changes to the logo symbol, these refinements allowed us to build upon the heritage of our identity, while creating a stronger relationship between how the wordmark pairs with the rest of the typeface,” the company continued.

Facebook did change its blue, but apparently, the company is hoping that this new blue will last forever. Check back on that in five years.

Moriah Plath’s Childhood Alopecia Made Her Feel Unloved

Published

on

‘Welcome to Plathville’ star Moriah Plath was diagnosed with alopecia as a kid and it impacted her a lot. Here’s where she stands today with the past.

The Gist:

  • Welcome to Plathville‘s Moriah struggled with alopecia during her childhood.
  • The condition led to her low self-worth.
  • Years later, the reality star is more at peace with her experience.

Many of us have difficult things from our pasts that define us today, and Moriah Plath of Welcome to Plathville is no different. In her case, however, her childhood diagnosis of alopecia was hidden away for years — until now.

Although the reality star once tried to pretend that this upsetting time in her life never happened, she is coming to terms with having lost all of her hair as a kid.

Moriah Plath’s alopecia diagnosis truly shaped who she was for many years.

As other sufferers know, alopecia is a type of hair loss that occurs on the scalp, face, and body, per the American Academy of Dermatology Association. It can begin at any age, and for Moriah, at age 3, she received her diagnosis.

Article continues below advertisement

“I would look myself in the mirror and I would say, ‘You are ugly. Nobody will ever love you,’” she heartbreakingly recalls during an episode of the show.

She goes on to explain, “I lost all my hair for several years completely, not even eyebrows or eyelashes,” per People.

Moriah, who described herself as “completely bald,” shared more about her experience with the incurable disease, saying during the show, “The doctors said it was alopecia but it was like a rare kind of alopecia cause it just all fell out immediately and came back years later. Everywhere I went, I was made fun of by kids my age: [at] church, [by] my siblings. And that’s when I really started to see myself as different.”

Moriah tried to block out her alopecia experience when her hair came back.

Moriah was seemingly in denial about having had alopecia, relaying that “every single one of my family members knew never to show a picture of me when I was younger to anybody. And never to tell anybody.”

Moriah admitted she wanted to “block” out the very hard time in her life, and in one scene of Welcome to Plathville, she says to her father that when her hair returned, she decided to “forget” about the alopecia.

Moriah’s parents Barry and Kim made her feel “beautiful” when she had alopecia.

In a moving Instagram post shared in May 2023, Moriah said about her father Barry Plath, “He’s shown me the meaning of unconditional love.”

Moriah’s parents were very supportive during her struggles with alopecia.

Indeed, it seems that during the years she had alopecia, Barry and his ex-wife Kim were a source of support for their daughter.

“I think you and mom were the only ones that actually told me I was beautiful,” Moriah tells Barry on the episode.

Still, her parents couldn’t make her pain go away completely. “For a while I was angry because you guys couldn’t fix it and you were my parents and you were supposed to fix it, but you couldn’t,” she shares.

Today, it seems that Moriah is more comfortable with her past, since she is addressing the experience with the condition on a TV show. Since as many as 160 million people around the world suffer from alopecia, there’s no doubt that the reality star opening up about her own diagnosis will help others feel more seen.
