When Netflix premiered The Ultimatum: Queer Love as a direct spinoff of the original series The Ultimatum, fans immediately called for more seasons of that show than the flagship series. And for good reason. The queer representation it brought to the table was unparalleled in reality television for dating. When we spoke exclusively with cast member and TV personality Vanessa Papa about her role in The Ultimatum: Queer Love, she was open about what the show got right.

Vanessa also detailed how her role in the series came to be, what it was like being villainized among the other cast members, and where she is now. We also had to ask about her future in reality television because although Vanessa was seen as a villain on Queer Love, fans still took a liking to her anyway.

Where is TV personality Vanessa Papa from ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love’ now?

The Ultimatum: Queer Love filmed more than a year before it finally premiered on Netflix. In the time it took to film the show and for Vanessa to watch it back at home, a lot had changed. And since this was Vanessa’s first foray into reality television, it was a lot for her to take in once she watched the show and received reactions from viewers.

“Reliving a version of an experience you had years prior is a very confusing experience,” Vanessa shared with us. “Knowing the entirety of what happened, and having to come to terms with what people will actually get to see was hard. I had never been on reality TV before, so I didn’t fully realize what I was getting myself into.”

But since then, Vanessa has been working on her acting career and, she shared with us, “life’s pretty fun right now.” Vanessa goes out on auditions and gets in some traveling when she can, but she’s also working on some indie projects as she follows her passion and builds her resume as an actress.

Vanessa shared a post-reality TV dating update.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love happened so long ago for Vanessa, and she is still plenty open to the idea of love. And at least now, she explained, she knows what she wants. She shared that she’s “not just looking for someone who fills a void,” but instead for someone who “makes [her] feel more alive.”

Vanessa Papa has worked with the Trevor Project.

Besides following her dreams as an actress and looking for romance, Vanessa also donates her time to the Trevor Project. The organization, which was founded in 1998, focuses on suicide prevention within youth in the LGBTQ+ community.

“I know firsthand how hard it can be to grow up questioning your identity in a world that’s not very patient,” she explained. “I wanted to do more than just donate money to them, so I chose to become a volunteer.”

Will Vanessa be on another Netflix dating show?

Despite being viewed in a negative light for some of her time on The Ultimatum: Queer Love, Vanessa acknowledges that the series filled a gap in the world of reality TV dating.

“There are so many reality dating shows out there, yet there’s almost none with an entirely queer cast. Having that visibility on TV is great,” she said. “I think the show lets people see that queer relationships are deep, complicated and real.”

As for the question of Vanessa going on reality TV again to find love at some point?

Her coy response was, “I would consider it.”

Who was ‘RHOSLC’ star Whitney Rose’s friend, Shari Quai?

Fans may recall seeing Whitney’s friend, Shari, in a 2020 episode of RHOSLC. In a Season 1 episode, Shari attended Whitney and Justin’s vow renewal and Whitney’s 1920s-themed party that same season. During Season 4, Ep.12, “Icy Apologies,” Whitney shared in a scene that Shari, her friend from age 23, had been intubated following a battle with Stage 4 colorectal cancer.

On April 27, Whitney posted several Instagram photos and videos of her and Shari to honor her friend’s legacy. “I write this with tears in my eyes not only because I will miss you deeply, Shari, but because you added so much beauty and love to my life,” Whitney wrote of her friend under a slideshow of their moments together. “It is so rare to find a friend like you, and I am forever blessed that I did. Whitney Rose’s friend’s death caused friction between the ‘RHOSLC’ star and Lisa Barlow.

Whitney discovered the news of her friend, Shari’s death while filming Season 4 of RHOSLC. After sharing with her husband that Shari had been intubated, she revealed on the show that both she and Shari knew her life was ending.

“I was with her on Monday, and she couldn’t even get off the couch,” Whitney recalled on RHOSLC. “I’m worried. I think we’re losing her. When I sat with her, that’s what we talked about – how she knows death is here.”

In another scene from the Season 4 episode, Whitney attends Meredith Marks’s launch party for her business, Plated by Meredith Marks. However, she had learned of Shari’s death shortly before the event. When she arrived at the event, Whitney noticed Lisa, who she thought was her close friend, hadn’t mentioned anything about the loss of her friend.

After noticing Lisa got Heather Gay a gift and not her, Whitney confronted Lisa at Meredith’s event. During the confrontation, Lisa admitted she didn’t know how Whitney grieved and didn’t know how to help her with losing her friend. Whitney felt the excuse wasn’t good enough, especially after she went to great lengths to ensure Lisa had supported her in the past.

Why Do You Have to Crush Snail Eggs?

Published

on

Why do you have to crush snail eggs? Whether you’re a snail owner or happen to find a nest, snail eggs are probably best taken care of on sight.

The Gist:

  • Snail owners often have to crush snail eggs on a regular basis.
  • Though some are reluctant to do so, many advise that the eggs should be taken care of.
  • We break down what folks have to say about destroying snail eggs.

Article continues below advertisement

Not so long ago, everyone was on the spotted lanternfly killing spree. As overt pests that can disrupt ecosystems and harm crops, we as a society were pretty much tasked with keeping these bugs at bay and crushing them on sight. I, personally, have seen plenty of crushed lanternflies on the sidewalk and have gotten a couple myself as recently as Fall 2023. It might seem a bit cruel at first, but it’s more necessary than one might think.

By that same measure, people do the same thing with snail eggs. If they happen to find some or if a pet snail lays them, it’s apparently better to get rid of the lot rather than let them hatch. Here’s what folks have to say about what to do with snail eggs.

Here’s why you should be crushing snail eggs.

Folks began discussing snail eggs after a TikTok video from @mildhippie went viral. As the self-proclaimed “snail egg crushing queen,” she has made several videos on both snail keeping and, of course, crushing snail eggs.

You might be surprised to know that she does have several snails as pets and she cares for many of them as best as possible. It’s because of this that she is an active proponent of crushing snail eggs.

Article continues below advertisement

In one of her most popular videos, she offers a deep dive into the importance of crushing snail eggs as a snail keeper. She explains that snails reproduce asexually and can lay more than 800 eggs a year. Allowing them to hatch means that you could, you know, end up having to care for more than 800 snails! Taking care of 800 of anything is an impossible task for anyone, even snails and snail keepers.

Releasing these snails in the wild is also not an option, as you may be introducing an invasive species into an ecosystem. Not only that, but many of these snails would hatch as “runts,” which are weaker snails that supposedly suffer every day because of their weakened bodies.

Given all of these troubling statistics around snail care, it’s no wonder that expert snail owners advise that snail eggs be crushed on a regular basis.

While @mildhippie loves her pet snails deeply, she also recognizes the responsibility placed on her to ensure that no one’s lives are completely overrun by snail eggs. To that end, she even offers tutorials and advice on how to crush snail eggs safely. In some cases, she even feeds the crushed eggs to her living snails, which is apparently something that snails are a fan of?

If you’ve ever thought about taking care of a snail as a pet, this is your first important lesson.
