Woman Says Airbnb Host Scammed Her Out of $2,300

Published

on

After claiming she was scammed by an Airbnb host for $2,300, this woman is cautioning people to avoid using the service at all costs. Airbnb responds.

At one point, folks used to rave about using Airbnb. Many people believed that Airbnb offered better perks than a standard hotel — from not having to deal with housekeepers coming in and out to being able to cook your meals. However, what was once considered the mecca for short- and long-term homestay experiences has become a nightmare for many people.

Over the years, folks have complained that Airbnb hosts have listed unfair house rules and made asinine demands. However, one of the biggest issues people have experienced is being charged for things they’re not responsible for. And in one TikTok video, a woman alleged that she was scammed out of $2,300 by an Airbnb host. As a result, she told folks to stop using the service. Here’s the scoop.

A woman on TikTok claims that her Airbnb host scammed her out of money.

Baby … it may be time to reconsider staying at hotels from now on. In an Oct. 3, 2023, TikTok video, creator Aceyaa (@_aceyaa) described her eye-opening experience with Airbnb.

“Airbnb host scammed me out of $2,300,” the text overlay reads.

As the video begins, Aceyaa states that she’s out $2,300 and is officially done with Airbnb. While seated in her car, Aceyaa explains that she and her family got two Airbnbs in Toronto.

She says that she and her sister both rented Airbnbs under their names. But when Aceyaa checked into her Airbnb, she noticed garbage in the garage. She sent the host the picture and he was “cool and cooperative” about it, she says.

When it came to check out, Aceyaa asked for an extension, to which he obliged. She paid the extra money with no problem.

“He asked me at first to put laundry in and to do laundry for the cleaner. I ignored it,” Aceyaa says.

She explains that she initially ignored it and didn’t do it because it’s not her job.

“We pay a cleaning fee for a reason,” Aceyaa says.

Aceyaa says that before checking out she made sure to clean everything from top to bottom. However, she did not take any pictures. Interestingly, she told her sister to take pictures of her Airbnb but didn’t heed her own advice.

“Don’t be like me. Take pictures of the bed frames, pictures of the stairs — each stair — corners and everything,” Aceyaa cautions in her video. “Do whatever you have to do.”

She then says that the Airbnb host complimented her and the family on being amazing guests and asked them to leave a review. But Aceyaa typically waits before leaving a review.

Then he switched up and showed her countless fees that he was charging her for the Airbnb, “Saying we broke a bed frame, we smoked in the house, we burned his staircase, we stained the kitchen,” she says.

Aceyaa explains that the family brought food to the Airbnb and the kitchen wasn’t used for cooking. She also questioned all of his claims. Interestingly, Aceyaa says that her sister’s Airbnb host was great. Not to mention, both ladies cleaned both residences in the same fashion, but only Aceyaa had to deal with nonsense.

Unfortunately, Airbnb sided with Aceyaa’s host since he provided pictures — although the pictures had no time stamps to prove the damage occurred when Aceyaa was renting the space. And since she didn’t have any pictures of her own as proof, they sided with him.

From there, Aceyaa cautioned people about staying at Airbnb and told them to “just get a hotel.”

Airbnb responded to Aceyaa’s claims in a statement to Distractify.

“We take allegations like this seriously and we are looking into the concerns raised by the guest. We also can confirm the guest will not be charged for the damages,” the Airbnb spokesperson said.

TikTok users agree with Aceyaa’s belief that people should opt for hotels instead of Airbnb.

Unfortunately, it appears that Airbnb has burned a lot of bridges with past guests. After Aceyaa shared her sentiments on TikTok about her experience, many folks believe in opting for a hotel.

“I hate Airbnb. Pay a cleaning fee and demand that we clean. Who wants their last memories to be cleaning,” one person commented.

“OMG, sis. This exact thing happened to me but as soon as I got the charge, I immediately disputed it and told them I was going to involve my lawyer,” another person shared.

“I’ve been going back to using hotels. I’m not a fan of Airbnb because there are too many horrible and greedy hosts,” another person chimed in.

Use Airbnb at your discretion.

We break down the video below.

A woman calls the police after finding little kids left in a car.

The video takes place in a parking lot with Domi addressing us directly and the words on the screen read, “bro… PLEASE STOP LEAVING YOUR LITTLE CHILDREN IN THE F—— CAR UNATTENDED!!! IT IS DEAD ASFF.”

The video opens with Domi passionately stating, “This is f—— ridiculous… There is a child left in the f—— car. I’m literally right next to the car right now. Left by herself in the f—— car seat.”

Domi explains that it is cold outside, probably only 45 degrees. Domi then notices that there’s another kid in the car as well. While we don’t see the children for privacy reasons, there’s a baby in a car seat as well as a toddler.

Domi tells us that she called 9-1-1 because she isn’t worried about anyone’s kids being taken away. She explains that if the parents were worried about their kids being taken away, then they wouldn’t have left them in the car by themselves.

The police show up and while we don’t see the interaction, we can hear Domi explain the situation to them. She turns the camera around so that we can see the police start to get the kids out of the car.

The video ends with Domi sitting in her car talking directly to the camera and saying that she doesn’t care if anyone calls her a “Karen,” and that she would never leave her kids in the car, “especially with sex trafficking going around.”

Domi also tells us that the dad shows up. He had taken the oldest child, a 14-year-old, into the store with him. He didn’t even know that the toddler was in the car until the police were there. Talk about bad parenting!

The caption for the video reads, “istg idgaf what y’all gotta say innem comments — DO NOT LEAVE UNDERAGED KIDS IN THE CAR ALONE‼️ if you’re under the age of 13, you shouldn’t be in a vehicle unattended. idc how quick your parents run into the store to grab some rice, STOP TS. people dgaf about what you doin’ when they’re breaking windows and kidnapping CHILDREN. While Domi was expecting people to call her out for being a Karen, the people in the comments actually support her. One person wrote, “You did the right thing and I’m really proud of you for it,” while another said, “You are NOT a Karen you did the right thing!!!”

We agree with Domi. A lot of people would have seen those kids and have been concerned, but wouldn’t have done anything. She did something, and many people are thankful for her swift action, especially those kids.

  • The Philadelphia Eagles changed the font on their logo in 2022.
  • Fans weren’t pleased with the change.
  • The new logo has a more modern look, but fans prefer the classic font.

Like all NFL teams, the Philadelphia Eagles logo is synonymous with their brand. Established in 1933, the Philadelphia Eagles, hailing from Pennsylvania, have made their mark in the league. The team has won three NFL championships and one Super Bowl trophy. With almost nine decades of football history, the Eagles command a massive and dedicated fan base.

In addition to being known for their boisterous fans, the Eagles logo is iconic. However, the team made some changes to their beloved wordmark. In June 2022, the Philly-based football organization announced that they were changing the font used for their classic logo.

“The Philadelphia Eagles will be adopting and implementing a new, refreshed wordmark,” read a statement from the team, per Philly Voice. “Moving forward, it should replace the old Eagles wordmark in all forms of media and public-facing materials.” The statement explained that the Eagles head, that’s synonymous with the brand, will remain untouched.

For fans of the champion football team, the change came as a shock. Following the announcement, Eagles enthusiasts took to social media to express their concern and question why the change was made in the first place.

The new Eagles logo has a more modern look.

In the previous logo, the word “Eagles” was arched, and featured sharp edges extending from the “E” and “S.” The new logo takes a different approach and has a sleeker design. The “Es” have an inward pointed arrow, but the other letters are untouched. Gone are the shadow and arch that gave the watermark a 3-D appearance. The animated eagle head remains on the team’s logo, although it is now placed above the text.

The Philadelphia Eagles will begin to switch out their player’s jerseys in the 2024 football season, but fans aren’t happy with the change. “So ugly and basic and boring, I don’t want to wear this,” one person tweeted. While another added, “Man they must have done this with their eyes closed.”

The Eagles have made brand changes in the past.

Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles aren’t always opposed to changes made to their beloved team. In March 2022, the team announced the return of their classic kelly green jerseys, which haven’t been worn since 2010. “I’m here to announce that beginning in the 2023 season, we’re going to have the kelly green, classic Eagles jersey and matching helmet and do it the right way,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said, per NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, and the other birds rocked the vintage gear for two games during the 2023 season, and fans couldn’t get enough of it. “Those should just be the regular set. So much better,” a fan tweeted. Meanwhile, others suggested that the Eagles, along with the Seattle Seahawks, should consider making their throwback jerseys the permanent alternative for home games.
